Santa Ynez Wineries (Sideways Wine Tour)

The 2004 movie “Sideways,” and the main characters Miles and Jack, put the Santa Ynez Valley on the map. Even sleepy Buellton came to the world’s attention after the film’s release. But the biggest recipients of the notoriety were the area wineries.

The wineries featured in the film are the Andrew Murray Vineyard, Foxen Winery, Fess Parker Winery (Frass Canyon), Firestone Winery, Sanford Winery, and the Kalyra Winery. Sideways the Map, a Santa Barbara County wine country map is available online at the Santa Barbara Conference and Visitors Bureau and Film Commission website.

The Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard, part of the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail, was started by television’s Davy Crockett (and Daniel Boone) and was featured in the movie “Sideways.” Besides award winning wines, the winery gift shop sells Parker’s iconic coon skin caps, bottle toppers and engraved glasses with the actor’s logo, a golden coon skin cap.

The tasting fee of $10 includes a crystal logo glass and a minimum of six wines are poured. Winery tours are available on Friday and Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. for $12 per person.
