Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch

Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch

Fans of the late entertainer and singer Michael Jackson will find it worth their while to take the short drive to his former home, the Neverland Ranch, which is off Highway 154, the road that runs up the Cachuma Pass toward Cachuma Lake. Neverland is on Figueroa Mountain Road, about a mile north of Mattei’s Tavern off of California State Route 154, near the town of Los Olivos. The dusty two lane road meanders through a pastoral setting of oak woodland dotted with cattle.

In the days and weeks after the pop icon’s death, the street in front of the Neverland gates were lined with news trucks, parked cars and vendors selling t-shirts with a myriad of images draped over car hoods. For several weeks after Michael Jackson’s death, the two sides of the black gate between the stone walls were hung with wreaths which were picked clean by visitors. The gold lettering across the left side of the heavy gate spells out ”Neverland,” and the corresponding right reads, “Once Upon a Time.”
